Nostalgia along the entire route - Huffing and hissing, the Fichtelberg train approaches the impressive Hüttenbach viaduct just outside Oberwiesenthal. With a long drawn out whistle and a hissing cloud of steam, the black colossus greets the ramblers down in the valley. The spectacle is not a scene from days gone by, but rather a common sight up in the Erzgebirge today, where the old narrow gauge trains wheeze through our picture-book landscape on four railway lines covering a total of 56 km.
In the olden days, Electors saddled their horses here to ride to the hunt. Today, a rather different means of transport is the order of the day. The motorbike town of Zschopau is home to an impressive two-wheeler exhibition, rather grandly accommodated at Wildeck Castle. The region is also known for world class trail-biking.
Among others, the steam railway and light railway, and historical trains: the Erzgebirge sight-seeing train, Fichtelberg train, Preßnitztal train and Schönheide museum railway
